Workshop on Literary Theory vis-a-vis Text inaugurated at SMVDU

Katra. August 13. The School of Languages & Literature, SMVD University organized a One-Day Workshop on Theory Vis-à-vis Text which was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor Prof. R.N K Bamezai. The students and the faculty of the Colleges of Humanities & Social Sciences and several faculty members and students of University of Jammu and various constituent colleges participated in the workshop.

Welcoming the participants Dr.Vandhana Sharma, Director of the School stressed the need of such inter- disciplinary discourse as the initial event of the School in the new academic session. The Vice Chancellor , Prof. Bamezai in his inaugural address described dwelt upon the interaction between   Sciences, Technology and Language Studies. He also spoke of achievements in Genomic research by Indian scholars and added that personally he believed in a divine purpose behind all human activity.

Prof. G.K Das, former Vice Chancellor of Utkal University and a retired professor of   University of Delhi, in his keynote address urged the younger generation of scholars to strive and make a mark in original thinking and research without been subservient to theories propounded by the Western world.

In his address, the Dean of the College of Humanities of Social Sciences, Prof. R.S Misra welcomed the activity organized by the School of Languages & Literature  and gave his blessings.

In the afternoon session, the workshop concentrated on the strategic interrelationship between Theory and Text with special reference to Jane Austen’s Emma and relative Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights.

Dr. Garima Gupta delivered the vote of thanks. The proceedings were conducted by students of School, Simranpreet and Quleen.
