Two Books of Faculty Members Released by HE Governor, J&K

His Excellency the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir State and Chancellor of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Sh. N. N. Vohra, released two books authored by Dr. V. K. Bhat, Director, School Mathematics and Dr. Supran Kumar Sharma, School of Business Economics of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University at a function held at Raj Bhawan.

"An Introduction to Real Analysis", authored by Dr. Bhat gives a lucid description of real number system and its related notions. It includes chapters like real number system, sequences, limit and continuity of functions, differentiability, integration and fundamental theorems with a special chapter on inequalities which supplements the other chapters. Each chapter contains examples and an exercise set. All the chapters are well connected and in each chapter the fundamental concepts have been discussed. Prerequisite for this book is the basic knowledge of real numbers. The book is designed as a text book for undergraduate and post graduate students of Mathematics. The book is published through Narosa Publishing House, New Delhi, ISBN 978-81-8487-1-49-4 for sale in SAARC countries while the European Edition of the book is published through Alpha Science International Limited, Oxford, U.K. ISBN 978-1-84265-705-8 for sale in Europe, USA etc.

"Performance and Prospects of Small Scale Industries in the State of Jammu and Kashmir", authored by Dr. Supran Kumar Sharma, published by Manak Publications Pvt. Ltd. , Delhi with ISBN 978-81-7831-260-6 with financial support by Indian Council of Social Science and Research, New Delhi, endows with a coherent exposition and analytical description of the small scale industrial sector of the state of J&K in particular and India in general. Written in reader-friendly style, it is designed to acquaint scholars, students and other readers with tools and methods in the measurement of growth, productivity, and technical efficiency besides the insights into problems faced by small industrial sector.

It is expected that this attempt will help to peep into the world of economics of Small Scale Industries (SSIs) and appreciate its rich and varied traditions with the explanation of the process that led to recognition, accommodation and measurement of contribution of SSIs to the gross domestic product and employment generation. Analyzing the performance of SSIs from both parametric and non-parametric approaches has made it more perceptive for the readers. In short, the book supplies a ‘comprehensive and practical guide’ for people wishing to study different dimensions of small scale industrial sector analyzed on the basis of applied statistical and econometric tools and is expected to serve as a reference for the researchers, consultants and policy makers for analyzing the inter-state growth and productivity measurement and differentials for small and medium scale industries in India.

The Governor, complimented Dr. Bhat and Dr. Sharma for bringing out their publications and wished them high success in their endeavors. While enquiring from Dr. Bhat and Dr. Sharma about the areas of their respective works, the Governor emphasized the need for bringing about continuous improvements in the books at levels.

Prof. R. N. K. Bamezai, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and Mr. R. K. Goyal, Principal Secretary to the Governor, were present on the occasion and congratulated the authors for bringing out such valuable literature.
